It's Almost Here!
I am so excited about our 100th day coming up. For years I have used simple black and white circles for sorting mats but after seeing some fancied up versions on Pinterest I decided it was time to update. These are the sorting mats I will use for both our Froot Loop Necklaces and our Healthy Trail Mix. The children will put 10 of each item in each circle and when they are done, they will have 100 items. Years ago I asked the children to just count out 100 items and I found out VERY quickly that was just too difficult. This makes it so much easier because my students can count 10 items. Much less intimidating and TONS more fun!

100th Day Trail Mix
Our 100th day of school is coming up in a couple of weeks. Like so many of you awesome teachers, I make trail mix with my kindergartners. I know lots of people have the children fill out something like what I have posted above, however, I have tweaked it to fit the needs of all of us "healthy schools" out there. At our school we are not allowed to use m&m's, skittles, chocolate chips, nuts (for allergy reasons), etc. These are the items that have been approved for our school, maybe they will work for yours. The items pictured are as follows:
Cheese Ball Puffs
Cheerios
Teddy Grahams or Gummy Bears
Fruit snacks
Marshmallows
Pretzels
Goldfish Crackers
Popcorn
Animal Crackers
Oyster Crackers

It's a JUNGLE out there!

WOW it's been a busy day! I could get a whole lot more done on my school stuff and blog if I had a housekeeper. Hmmmm, think my husband will go for it? Nah, who am I kidding. If we pay for a housekeeper I can't spend so much money on my kindergarten babies and cute clip art! So, no housekeeper for me! I have been working on getting my new classroom theme completed. I have done rainbow colors in my room for quite a few years now and I decided it was time for something new. I went crazy getting some jungle clip art. Almost too much. It was hard to decide what to use. Due to the size of my jungle theme package, I had to split it up into three items on TPT. If you are interested in the package that has the Days of the Week, Months of the Year, Word Wall stuff, Incentives etc. click here. If you are only interested in getting the alphabet using the jungle theme then click here. Or if you are looking for jungle numbers, click here. Of course I would love it if you checked out all three. Sorry for the inconvenience of 3 items. Hope you all have a great day. Feel free to leave me comments if there is anything you are looking for that I can help with. I'd love to hear from you!

MIA
A Year of Writing in Kindergarten
Whew, missing in action is putting it mildly. The last couple of months have been crazy but hopefully I can find time to get back to my blogging life. For the past two years I have only taught math but starting next year I am going back to teaching all the subjects. As much as I love math, I am pretty excited about going back to teaching everything. I have a lot of work to do to prepare for the reading and writing. The writing is my biggest concern. I created this journal that I am going to use. We will be doing writing daily but I am thinking that once a week they will do a writing assignment that they will keep in this journal. At the end of the year they will be able to take it home and look back at the growth they made throughout the entire year in one book. I know the children will enjoy looking back through it and I'm pretty sure the parents will love it too.

Back to School?????
Wow, I can't believe I'm already creating things for back to school! At our school the office sends each family that is enrolling for next year, home with a packet of informational "stuff". This year, we are including a note and calendars of the months of June, July and August. The calendars are packed full of ideas on things to work on to start preparing their children for kindergarten and the common core standards. I'm pretty excited about how well they came out. Sorry it has taken me so long to post them but if you think you would be interested the calendars can be found here and the parent letter can be found here. I hope you find them useful!
